Ayrshire - Robert Burns' country
Also known as the Bard of Ayrshire, Robert Burns (or Rabbie Burns to locals) was a poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, and is celebrated worldwide. He is most famous throughout the world for his poem (and song) Auld Lang Syne, which is often sung at Hogmanay (New Year), and Scots Wha Hae, which served for a long time as an unofficial anthem of the country.
The Burns National Memorial can be found nearby in Mauchline, Ayrshire along with many other monuments and statues throughout Ayrshire county which makes for a perfect trip back through time tracing the history of Scotland's most celebrated poet.
One final interesting note for fans of Robert Burns is that he visited Laight Farm many years ago and this is commemorated by a plaque outside the building which guests will be able to see. Much more information on Robert Burns as well as things to do in Ayrshire can be found on our links page.
